Virginia Land Records, 7 Oct. 1771: Between Joseph RICHARDS and Mary RICHARDS his wife of the parish and County of Pitsylania of the one part and Robert MAYS of the Parish & County of Amherst of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of Twentyfive pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Robert MAYS the Receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and thereof, and of every part and parcel thereof, do acquit and discharge the said Roband MAYS, his heirs and assigns for ever, have given, granted, sold, conveyed, and confirmed, and by these presents do give, grant, sell, release, convey, and confirm unto the said Robert MAYS his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Amherst containing by estimation two hundred acres... Virginia Land Record, 27 March 1780: John TOMMERSON of Bedford Co. of the one part and Robert MAYS of Amherst Co. of the other part Witnesseth that the said John TOMERSON for and in consideration of one hundred pounds current money to him in hand paid by the said Robert MAYS the Receipt whereof he Doth hereby Acknowledge hath Granted, Bargained, Sold, ... by these presents doth grant, Bargain, Sell... unto the said Robert MAYS one certain tract or parcel of land containing by Estimation Twenty five Acres (be the same more or less) lying and being in the said County of Amherst on the Branches of Davis' Creek... being part or parcell of a Tract or forty five acres of land granted by Patent unto Angus FORBUS bearing date the Tenth Day of September 1767, being the Tract whereon the said John TOMMERSON lately lived and which he purchased of the said FORBUS... Witnesseth that the said William TUCKER for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred pounds current money to him in hand... by the said Robert MAYS, the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted bargained, sold... and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell... unto the said Robert MAYS and his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and seventy nine acres of land on Stone House Creek on the North side of Buffaloe River in the said County of Amherst... Witnesseth that the said Robert MAYS and Susanna his wife, for and in consideration of the the sum of one dollar to us in hand paid, but more especially for the love and good will we bear towards the said Hensley CARPENTER and Rhoda his wife, we do hereby give, grant, bargain, and sell unto the said Hensley CARPENTER one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county aforesaid on the waters of Stonehouse Creek, containig twelve acres...
