1788 Benjamin: Amherst Co. Virginia Land Record, 8 May 1788; Between Perrin GILES Sr. and Lucy GILES, his wife of this county of Amherst of the one part and Benjamin MAYS of the said county of the other part. Witnesseth that said Perrin GILES and Lucy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds current money to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and have granted, bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents do grant, sell, and deliver unto the said Benjamin MAYS one tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Amherst on the Southwest side of Thrashers Creek containing by estimation eighty five acres... Signed, Sealed and Delivered; Perrin GILES Sr., Lucy GILES, in presence of us; Aaron HIGGENBOTHAM, William YELTON, Benjamin CARPENTER.

Virginia Land Record, 19 Sept. 1796; Between Benjamin MAYS & Susannah, his wife, of the County of Amherst of the one part and Eaton CARPENTER of the said County, of the other part; Witesseth that the said Benjamin MAYS & Susannah, his Wife, for and in the consideration of the Sum of thirty five pounds to them in hand paid, the Receipt whereof they doth hereby Acknowledge and have granted, bargained, sold & delivered and by these presents do grant, sell and deliver unto the said Eaton CARPENTER, one tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Amherst on the South West side of Thrashers Creek containing by Estimation Eighty five acres... In Witness Whereof the said Benjamin MAYS Susannah, his wife, have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Signed, Sealed, and Delivered in presence of: Robert HAMBLETON; James CARPENTER; Cornelius SULO(? Hard to read). At a court held for Amherst County the 19th day of September 1796 this Deed indend was Acknowledged in open court by Benjamin MAYS & Susannah, wife to the said Benjamin, She being first privatly (advised of) her Right of Dower in the said Conveyance and ordered to be Recorded.
