On August 25 1832 Benjamin appeared in court in Iredell Co, NC to obtain his pension. He mentioned four tours of duty that occurred over a period of four years from 1777 to 1781. He served in the Virginia Militia. Benjamin was 20 years old at the time.

The first tour was undert Capt. Ballinger. He was drafted and assisted in guarding the British in Albemarle County, Virginia.

His second tour was under Capt. Higginbotham, and was spent in a station at Richmond Virginia. His service was for two months at least.

His third tour was under Capt. Higginbotham and Col. Gaines at New Glasgow.

His fourth tour was under Capt. Woodruff and Col. Gaines at the time of the Siege of New York. Col. Gaines commanded the regiment. He assisted until the surrender of Cornwallis in 1781.

Benjamin was granted a pension. He received $20.55 per year for the rest of his life.
